Known as Cella, Maricela Danko is the heart and soul behind The Mending Canvas, a space designed to empower individuals on their journey of self-expression and self-care. From a young age, Cella was drawn to the creative process, learning from her father as they crafted ornaments for their family Christmas tree. These moments ignited a lifelong love for art, which became a source of comfort and joy. However, like many, life’s demands caused her to drift away from her passion, leaving her feeling disconnected and unable to express her emotions. Recognizing the need for change, she reignited her creative spirit by enrolling in art school, which eventually led her to explore the transformative world of therapeutic art.
As a certified therapeutic art coach, Cella combines her personal experiences with professional expertise to create a safe, judgment-free space where clients can express themselves freely. Her approach is rooted in empathy and authenticity, drawing from her own journey through mental health challenges to forge deep connections with those she works with. For Cella, art is more than just a creative outlet—it’s a tool for healing, self-discovery, and building hope.
Over the past year, Cella’s dedication to her craft has flourished. She returned to her own artistic practice, earned a "Best in Show" award at a local competition, and had her work displayed in a gallery. Beyond her individual achievements, she’s also passionate about community, mentoring local artists to foster collective creativity and support. Through her workshops and group classes, she’s witnessed the profound impact that art can have on emotional well-being, inspiring her mission to bring this healing power to as many people as possible.
At The Mending Canvas, Cella’s vision is to create an environment where individuals can navigate their emotions, find relief from negativity, and form meaningful friendships. She believes in the transformative power of creativity to inspire self-assurance, uncover true voices, and build a supportive community. Whether through her coaching, her own artwork, or her collaborations with other artists, Cella’s work is a celebration of resilience, creativity, and the endless possibilities of self-expression.
